With the digital age in full swing we are experiencing a
major change in the way we use everyday objects. It seems like the next new
tool to use is virtual wallets. This was first introduced by Google with the
implication of Google Wallet. What this technology gives you is the ability to
store all of your major credit cards and debit cards in your phone. It gives
you less of a chance to lose your cards and gives you more security and added convenience.
Apple decided to join this by just announcing its creation
of Apple Pay. Coming with the new iPhone 6 and Apple watch is the ability to
have your own virtual wallet. Apple has joined forces with many major card
companies and banks to make the set up process simple and easy to use. And with
this technology being accepted at over 220,000 stores you will find a use for
this technology easily. Through the touch ID, which is the database that
stores your fingerprints, Apple pay gives you a secure way to make transactions
and prevent fraud and identity theft. If your phone is stolen you can place
your phone in “lost mode” through Find my IPhone to wipe all of your
information quickly. The reason I chose this tool is not only the fact that it is very interesting technology but because of a recent argument over the security of this application. I thought the timing of the announcement was a little off due to the fact that a few weeks before there was a major hack into Apples ICloud system. Apple states that it was the users that were hacked and not the actual system but you have to think that the systems security did have to play a major role. What will stop these hackers from tapping into the Apple pay database causing unseen amounts of identity theft and fraud? Apple says is it safe, but how much can you trust their word? This technology is something I would be very hesitant to use at first due to security concerns. But after sometime I would give in due to its convenience factor which I believe will trump all security concerns over time and concert all Iphone users to Apple Pay.
