The title of this article is “ThinkUp
Helps the Social Network User See the Online Self”. They talk about how creators
of ThinkUp Anil Dash and Gina Trapani came up with the idea for ThinkUp which
is a year-old subscription service that analyzes how people comport themselves
on Twitter and Facebook, with the goal of helping them become more thoughtful,
less reflexive, more empathetic and more professional – over all, better
behaved. I found this article pretty interesting because ThinkUp shows users a
list of people’s most-used words and other straightforward stats like follower
counts, how often they thank and congratulate people, how frequently they
swear, whose voices they tend to amplify and which posts get the biggest
reaction and from whom.
Ms. Trapani said, “The
goal is to make people less like a jerk online, and the big goal is create
mindfulness and awareness, and also behavioral change.” I actually find myself
saying things off the cuff online and a service like ThinkUp could probably
benefit me in more than a few different ways. Unfortunately ThinkUp charges $5
a month for each social network you connect to, and feel that it’s probably not
worth it. As stated, just stop using social networks. But we all know that is
not going to happen.
