I decided to post an article on the usage of apps. Apps have become a major part of everyday life, there’s an app for everything. Android’s app store has close to 1.6 million downloadable apps, downloads are very diverse in their content; from mobile gaming to medical assistance. Companies have been strategically marketing towards smartphone users and their tendency to gravitate toward products compatible with their devices, even blood glucose readers have a downloadable app to assist in recording glucose levels throughout the month.

With so many options it may be difficult for a company to get their apps in the hands of the user.  Apps can be found virtually everywhere, apps are no longer restricted to the app store. It is common for an individual searching for a product or service to be recommended to an app to make the process easier. There are multiple companies in airline industry like Travelocity that have made millions off downloadable apps to ensure the cheapest flights and assist with the often complicated booking process.  Apps are advertised in videos and across social media. Think about all the App ads you see while using Facebook, you most likely view multiple ads a day without even knowing it. One in four apps are found while searching the web.

A huge challenge the App industry faces is how to keep users engaged. Often apps are downloaded, used for the first week and then never used again. I think snapchat does a great job of keeping users engaged through Snap Stories.  Snapchat has daily posted stories by multiple companies that provides news and entertainment. Some companies keep users engaged by providing daily coupons and informing users of promotions. Some applications add new features regularly to reengage users.  It is important to provide these features in an app to ensure its use. 30% of apps use the promotions strategy to reengage users. 24% of apps use the bonus content feature for reengagement, 21% of reengagement is credited to the fact that downloaders friends and family started using it recently, And 16% of reengagement credited to the use of notifications.

There is also Mobil app engagement ads. This is a feature of search engines. Mobile app engagement ads pop up when a user is searching for something they have an app for. The ad reminds the user of their download and encourages them to use the app with a link.

All the information provided was part of a survey google conducted. Google surveyed over 8100 smart phone users that have used smart phone apps within the last 30 days. I found the results to be very interesting as well as useful when considering making an app. I wish I knew of a program to create apps because I thought of a pretty cool one. It is important to notify users of the practicability of your app and to inform them how it will assist them. It is also beneficial to have your app ads marketed on web pages that pertain to its features, it would be ignorant to have a ad for the McDonalds app on a vegan website. It is also important to add features that keep the user engaged to ensure the future use of your app. if you’re thinking of making an app this article will definitely assist in its success
