Today, I would like talk about social media applications and particularly about Beme which was introduced in July of 2015 and it is founded by Casey Neistat, a New York filmmaker, and Matt Hackett, former vice president of engineering for Tumblr.
Main changes from Snapchat is that the person who is posting video doesn't have option of editing or filter the video and can not see the video before posting. According to Casey Neistat, Beme is most honest and genuine social media where we can't fake and create an image of us that doesn't exist.
This originality make it is unique. Another interesting feature is that a person can record things with putting the phones front camera to their chest which makes it very interesting and good new change to our recording style. There is no start record or end record buttons. Once four minute video is recorded it gets posted automatically to the Beme account to our followers to see and video can be seen only once. There is no extra payment to see it again. It is completely ads free at the moments.
Before Facebook there was world of Myspace, then Facebook came long and connected whole world starting in Harvard dorm rooms and now pretty much in every dorm room in US and rest of the developed world. After Facebook, we noticed the boom or spark of Instagram which changed how people shared photos and most people stopped sharing photos on Facebook; thus might be a reason Facebook bought Instagram. Then, after sharing photos, people started sharing short videos and that's how Snapchat was born and took over social media and took it to another level. And now Beme is introduced. "There is hardly a dearth of social video apps — Vine, Snapchat, and more recently, Periscope and Meerkat. Beme will have to fight for the attention of the fickle crowds of early adopters." (Issac, 2015)
