Bitcoin: Digital Money for a Digital Economy

Recognize this logo? Bitcoin has been around for a few years now. Most people have at least heard of Bitcoin but many still don't know too much about it. Bitcoin(BTC) is the worlds first digital form of money. It can be used anywhere around the world and is accepted by thousands of businesses including Target, Amazon, WordPress,Overstock.com, Dell and many more you can find by clicking here.

It has seen a wild ride in its value since its inceptionminting many multi-millionaires along the way.
What makes BTC unique is the fact that it is the 1st non-government backed, world-wide, digital currency. Bitcoin is seen by many as a privatization of money.  No government controls it and nobody can mint more of them later. There will only be 21,000,000 BTC, ever. Thus, making it attractive as a store of value because the number of coins is finite. Unlike all fiat/goverment backed currencies that print more at will, thus devaluing their respective currencies. BTC is designed to actually rise in value, like money should!

This video gives a nice rundown of Bitcoin's basics:

Bitcoins are created and transactions simultaneously validated by the Bitcoin network thru a process called mining. The cool thing is that anyone can mine bitcoins! I actually built what is known as a BTC mining farm earlier on when individuals could actually build mining systems with off the shelf parts. Here is a pic of my mining rig from a few years ago, (a.k.a. "the Beast" )

Whether Bitcoin will be the future of money that will streamline online commerce has yet to be seen. That fact that it still even exists at all is impressive. There is now about $6.75 Billion USD worth of Bitcoin in circulation being used every day!

I Want That Shirt!- Amanda Ciacelli

I can remember when I was a teenager and would go to the grocery store with my mom the thing I always wanted were magazines.  I loved looking through the magazines and seeing all the clothing ads and wanting what the models were wearing.  I would go shopping with my mom with those outfits in mind and would want what I saw in the magazines.  Then along came the internet and I still would buy the magazines but I didn't have to go to the mall to buy the items, I could go online and buy the same outfit.  Now as the internet has evolved I no longer need to buy the magazines because I go online and get my fashion inspiration from many different sites.

One of the sites that I love to go on and see different outfits that people post is Instagram.  You can view thousands of different outfits on a daily basis from many different people.   When I am viewing these pictures there are many times when I say to myself "I need that shirt!".  Well, Instagram realized I wasn't the only person thinking that because they created a shopping tool to make it possible to get the items you see in these pictures.   The website is, http://liketoknow.it/, and it makes it easy to shop all the outfits you see posted.  You need to sign up on the site and then you can choose the people from Instagram that you want to to follow.  Then you can go on their personal page and choose the outfit you want information on and then it will give links to the websites that you can buy the items in their pictures.  If you want to share your fashion with other people you can also set up an account and link it to your Instagram account.  This is a great site for any fashionista who wants inspiration or wants to get some ideas of what to wear.

Why Buzzfeed is so Good at Social Media

Buzzfeed is a company that has been getting a lot of attention in the past few years, but especially in the past year or so. Almost anyone can find an article or a video from Buzzfeed on any of their social media accounts on a day to day basis. I know that Buzzfeed is always all over my Facebook feed, Tumblr dash, Twitter timeline, and even on Snapchat with their own Discover Stories.
Buzzfeed has very successfully used online marketing to create somewhat of an empire. Their articles and videos span from current news and entertainment news to humor, fandoms and food enthusiasts. Their “Tasty” video series shows you in short videos how to make cool recipes, and that’s something that can be seen shared all over Facebook. Their Discover Stories on Snapchat (which contains many articles, pictures and videos all in one section of the app, updated every 24 hours). They have quizzes on their website, for pretty much any subject you could think of. Their use of gifs in their articles also makes them pretty popular, because gifs are still not quite to on being a widespread thing on every social media platform and every website. They are fun and interesting and it is something that really captivates the readers on the internet today.
Part of the success that Buzzfeed has had, comes from their ability to cater and relate to many different audiences, so essentially, they usually have something for everyone. Scrolling over the “More” tab on their website gives you twenty-seven different topics alone to choose from. The site could entertain you for hours and hours on end.
They really have taken over the internet in a sense (even more than Kim Kardashian’s “Break The Internet” campaign possibly) and I think that it’s a really great site. If you haven’t heard of it (which if you haven’t I don’t know how), I hope that you check it out.

The To-Do List Solution

ColorNote App
Color Note is an Android based App that I use almost daily.
With this app you never need to worry about scrambling to find something to write on or write with, note taking and list making are right at your fingertips.
Whether you want to make a check list, or write memos, this is the app that can handle it all.
Grocery lists, to-do lists, or things you just need to keep handy can all be stored in this app.
ColorNote has three themes to choose from that allow you to personalize the app look and feel. If you like a dark theme or prefer a lighter hue this is available to you.
Each list you create can be color coded as well. There are currently 9 different colors to choose from ranging from yellow, blue, red, purple, grey and green, there is even orange. These hues are not bright and obnoxious but pleasing to the eye.
If you need to share your notes and lists there are a variety of options available that let you send them by way of text messages, or e-mail as well as sharing them to Google Drive, Facebook, Google plus, Hangouts, etc..
ColorNote even allows for conversion to PDF making this the most versatile app for note taking.

Here is a link to learn more about this amazing app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.socialnmobile.dictapps.notepad.color.note

I have personally used this app for over 4 years. It is rated a 4.6 out of 5 stars according to google play which sponsors it.

This app is not available for apple however. There is scuttlebutt going around that the app will reach apple users in the future, but for now it is android based and available at the App store or on google play store.

As it grows in popularity it has become enhanced to allow your notes to be saved in google drive so even if you have to switch phones you will never lose your lists and notes.
ColorNote can be installed on android smart phones as well as android tablets.

Bellow is a YouTube video demonstration of the app.

If you are still not convinced, follow this link to learn about all the features of ColorNote and the benefits of using it.

You can even order prints from your local Walgreens.
Pic Stitch comes in many different languages as well such as: English, French, German, Japanese, Simplified, Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese. The app has a 4 star rating, and was last updated on January 07, 2016.

It’s Going Down in the DM: Snapchat and its Unique Marketing Advantages for Business

It’s Going Down in the DM
Snapchat and its unique marketing advantages for Businesses
by Rasheedah Gyan-Apenteng
S
napchat is a photo-sharing service in which the photos you share, called snaps, disappear in
seconds. Moments after opening snaps users can
no longer access them. The images are deleted from the company’s servers.

Diverging from other social media sites, Snapchat has a simple sign up process that uses your telephone contacts instead of other networks. It creates a different, more intimate kind of social network not offered anywhere else.
Some distinguishing features of the service are that you can draw on and caption any photo, and most vital, you can set how long (1 – 10 seconds) your image can be viewed by the recipient. The app notifies the sender when the recipient has opened a snap, so that you know whether it was received.

There are no profiles to mention, or walls to post on. However, the app does provide users with a story that can be edited and modified at will, which is comprised of an activity score based on your usage of the app, three ‘best friends’ with whom you communicate most within the app, and a couple of pictures or videos, all of which can be viewed by any of your contacts. Snapchat stories, which last only 24 hours, are a string of snaps used to create a video narrative using the apps native tools and features which include filters, geofilters, text, emojis, music, and more – all from within the platform.

Advantages of Snapchat? According to Business Insider, over 71% of Snapchat users in the US are under 34, including 45% between the ages of 18 and 24, which makes the app the social network with the youngest audience, far ahead of its nearest competitors Vine and Tumblr.
The ephemeral nature of Snapchat posts forces users to focus on the message and react immediately. What all of this means in terms of marketing is that sending a snap to someone is an invitation to a largely visual conversation.

The service is a reaction to the saturation of social networking and the dominant interaction modes where big data, behavioral targeting, and the need to record every little thing – reigns supreme.
Snapchat has shown remarkable growth since its launch in September of 2011 and has tapped into a deep desire among younger internet users for activity that doesn’t have to be entered in the global logbook in the cloud. Kids, and increasingly, adults – want a space to play and experiment without everybody knowing about it.

Evan Siegel, one of the company’s co-founders, said about the app,
“We’re building a photo app that doesn’t conform to unrealistic notions of beauty or perfection, but rather creates a space to be funny, honest, or whatever else you might feel like at the moment you take and share a snap.”
Businesses can use Snapchat to provide access to live events, deliver private content; offer contests, perks and promotions; take people behind the curtain; and partner with influencers, spreading brand awareness and reach. A skilled influencer can create spectacular content that can further enhance your brand voice and personality.

In 2015, Snapchat became the third most popular social media platform among millennials. The company now boasts over 100 million active daily users and is valued at 12 billion dollars. Some of the most notable Snapchat campaigns of 2015 included:
  • Sphero Star Wars influencer campaign (BB-8 droid sold out in a matter of hours)
  • Terminator Social Cross-Promotion, leading up to the premiere of “Terminator: Genisys (more than 2,500 shares and 54,000 likes on Facebook)
  • 2015 VMA Celebrity Story, ( 12 million views on Snapchat)
  • iHeart Radio – Festival Buzz (340 million Snapchat impressions in just 2 days).
Innovative campaigns can showcase brand personality and create a two-way communication between the brand and customers. Snapchat success lies in a brands ability to capture user-generated content while increasing brand loyalty, which is why I think that that this emergent social media platform is a great tool for creative business marketing.

Unedited, Uncensored, Unbiased Reviews... No Way! YES Way!

Unedited, Uncensored, Unbiased Reviews...No Way! YES Way!

Do you ever get sick of going to review websites and finding that the business you're trying to get the scoop on mysteriously only has all 5 star reviews? Or they will throw in one obviously made up 1 star review just to make it look legit.  Yeah, I hate that too! My husband and I love to travel, try new restaurants and try out new products as often as possible. Therefore, I need quick, unbiased, reviews that I know I can trust didn't come from the place itself. So I'm sure by now you are wondering how I get all kinds of great and helpful information! Facebook forum pages!

Yes! Its that simple, Facebook forum pages are a great free tool to get all kinds of great information about anything and everything.  We recently had our second child and I discovered the "mom to mom" forum pages on Facebook at about 2 months pregnant.  Oh, I'm telling you, they probably saved my sanity! With it having been 8 years since our first baby, I had no clue what I was doing as far as buying products to get ready for babies arrival. So I would simply go onto the forum pages and ask "What do you think of Nuk bottles?" or "Does this brand car seat fit newborn babies?" With in minutes I would have 10 reviews, personal stories, and opinions of the product. The forums range in all kinds of genres, sizes, fashions, tones, and categories. You can find mom forums or fishing forums or fishing mothers forums for example. Just type in what you are looking for in the search bar at the top of your Facebook page, "Brighton Mom to Mom Forum" or "Product Review Forum". The search will give suggestions and you pick which page you are looking for, then you request to be added as a member. Then once you are accepted, you can start posting your questions and asking for reviews!

In a way, it is almost free advertising for a lot of businesses. So in the end it is a win win for everyone to get your reviews this way. However, just a fair warning the forums can sometimes turn into this weeks issue of the Gossip Column. So if you are not into talking about Sally's husbands affair or June's kids recital then just by pass those posts and just focus on what you are asking about.

Good luck and Happy chatting!

Hashtag - Flint Water Crisis

The providing of clean air, safe drinking water, solid waste management and flood control are all basic public services that people who pay taxes expect to receive. Too bad the people running the city of Flint, and the state of Michigan never received the memo. It's also too bad that the federal Environmental Protection Agency sat on the sidelines while Flint’s water supply was being diminished.

In the spring of 2014, the city of Flint stopped using Detroit's water system and instead began pumping its water from the Flint River. This was a cost-cutting measure designed to be temporary until the city could connect to a regional water system that was then under construction.

In September of 2015, the Associated Press reported that: "A group of doctors led by Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha of Hurley Medical Center urges Flint to stop using the Flint River for water after finding high levels of lead in the blood of children.” However, state regulators still insisted the water is safe.

If you search #FlintWaterCrisis in Twitter you'll find a steady stream of tweets regarding the water situation in Flint. The crisis in Flint has now gained national attention creating a fire storm on social media. Flint switched its drinking water source from the Detroit system to the Flint River in April 2014 to save money while the cash-strapped city was led by an emergency manager appointed by the Republican governor. The city returned to Detroit water in October after testing detected increased lead levels in residential water supplies and in children's blood. Although the city has now switched back to the Detroit water system, the water from the Flint River has damaged the city's water pipes and released lead and other pollutants from the pipes into the water supply. Had the state required corrosion protection chemicals to be added to the Flint River's water, the lead pollution might have been avoided, but the state agency neglected to enforce this requirement. Now, in order to use the public water system, in-home filters must be used and changed frequently to ensure that the water is safe. Usage of social media to bring awareness to the crisis is not a bad idea because it is getting the attention of many as intended.

While Flint residents are not the only frustrated about this situation, many celebrities, social activists, Film Maker and Flint Native Michael Moore and even Flints own mayor Karen Weaver have spoken out via social media about the crisis.

Flint's water crisis is not exactly a natural disaster but it is a disaster of poor management based on the philosophy of cost-cutting at all costs. Michigan’s poor management is harming the environment, public health, and everyone's finances. There are no short-cuts, and the sooner the people running our governments and businesses figure that out, the sooner we can proceed with the real work of growing our economy without destroying our home planet. Snyder's application said as much as $55 million is needed in the near term to repair damaged lead service lines and as much as $41 million to pay for several months of water distribution and providing residents with testing, water filters and cartridges. Therefore, it seems as though their idea of saving money has made a complete wrong turn and will end up costing them more than what they saved.
