We most often see
Facebook events used for personal occasions but for James Sanders, Certified
Personal Trainer and owner of T.H.G.R. (Train Hard Get Results) Fitness, it was a means to connect with his
clients. He recently conducted a 14-day
Body Weight Challenge that allowed clients to get a stimulating full-body
workout without the use of gym equipment.
This challenge presented an opportunity for an Arizona-based
fitness fanatic to unify his clients, from numerous states across America, in a
fun way but also do what he does best—train hard to get results! He successfully used numerous means to this
end with the help of social media and the worldwide web.
Sanders effectively used Facebook as a tool for his clients
to post progress, pictures and feedback. They responded the most using this method and
found joy in posting sweaty post-workout pictures with captions boasting about
the completion of each daily challenge.
It worked well for encouragement to hang in there and complete the
entire challenge. Clients were
transparent about their struggles and their successes. Even Sanders got in on the fun and posted his
own progress as he performed the challenge with his clients. He also uploaded check-in and motivational
videos to the Facebook event page and linked them to YouTube.
Sanders used other social media methods to promote his
14-day challenge. In an effort to best
serve his clientele, he used Survey Monkey to evaluate things like health
restrictions, endurance and communication preferences. Workout schedules were emailed daily along
with links to video tutorials posted via DropBox. Progress videos were linked on Instagram and
challenge details were posted on Twitter and Facebook.
A Twitter hashtag was presented to encourage engagement
amongst Sanders’ clients but wasn’t highly used by challenge participants. Nevertheless, this certainly didn’t hinder
Sanders’ ability to use social media to foster a fun community and use fitness
to enhance the quality of life for his clients. For more information check out https://www.facebook.com/events/1460856090884981/.
