Tyran Edwards/Michigan Humane Society
I have always been interested in the well being and care of animals, especially dogs, so I chose the Michigan Human Society as my topic of discussion. The Michigan Humane Society is the oldest animal welfare organization in the state, which cares for thousands of animals each year. Their mission statement is to end animal homelessness and provide medical and adoption services. On Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19 the Humane Society will be at the Detroit Zoo. There will be hundreds of dogs and cats that will be up for adoption. This event is held yearly and gives you the opportunity to meet the animals and gives the animals the opportunity to meet a potential owner. But I want to mention it is not just dogs and cats that are available, there are also rabbits and birds. If you are that person that loves animals, there are many ways to help out. You can volunteer, donate, work on special projects and foster. The other side of the Humane Society is rescue. Many times you will see TV commercials about a dog or cat being left by itself or not being treated fairly. You will also hear news reports about people hoarding animals or puppy mills. There is a lot of cruelty to animals, so it is good there is an organization that looks out for our animals friends. If you are interested in adopting a pet it is a simple process. You must be 18 years of age. Bring a drivers license or another form of identification. Bring members of the family and any pets and records of pets already in the household Meet with an adoption counselor to answer any questions and to help you find a good animal match for your home. Once the paperwork is complete and payment is made you can are allowed to take your animal friend home. All cats, dogs and bunnies are sprayed and neutered before being released to their new owner. So if you are looking to add an additional family member to your household, the Michigan Humane Society is a great place to start. You can go to the following website for further information.
