Tinder is a new dating/social interaction application, which allows you to connect and meet new people in your area. Millions of users around the world are downloading Tinder in hopes of finding a potential connection. The dating app is designed to be quick and easy. Provided when a profile comes up you have 2 options- if you're diggin' their tacky wacky style you swipe right. If your old neighborhood playmate that pushed you in the mud puddle when you were 8 and still have no desire to forgive a simple swipe to the left will anonymously move you on to your next potential match. The app uses your GPS to find other users; in the settings you can choose how big of a radius you want and the age group you prefer. The unique thing about Tinder is that in order to actually talk to someone on there you both have to like (swipe right) each other, and then a messaging thread will start between the two parties. The creator of the app says even though the app may seem a little shallow by allowing you to judge someone by simply looking at a picture, it is very similar to being out at a bar or event and choosing whom you like or don't like based on how they appear.
One of the main reasons why tinder is gaining popularity so quickly around the world is because of how accessible it is to everyone, it's free, and easy to use. Research shows that there are over 50 million active users on Tinder and on average they spend about 90 minutes on the app daily. The app is so popular in fact that even athletes and celebrities are joining.
I downloaded the app after my last breakup; my friends said it’s the new cool thing to do. I personally did not enjoy the app or really see the point. I got a few matches and messages but I never responded or pursued anyone on there. I have to admit that some of the pictures and descriptions are very entertaining. I can say for a fact that it is a cool concept, but as for me I’d rather go out and meet people on my own. I do however have a few friends who have met their now significant other on this app, so maybe it works after all? I encourage you all to download it and tell me what you think!!
