The first time I heard about Shazam was from my cousin he had the Shazam app on his phone. This app has been pretty handy for me especially if I want to know a name of a song!

What is Shazam? Shazam is one of the world's most popular apps that connects people to the world around them through their mobile device. When you Shazam a song or t.v show, you are able to identify, explore, purchase and share that content. One of the world's top ten apps, Shazam reaches more than 475 million users in 200 countries, exceeds 100 million monthly active users, and is growing by over 13 million new users each month. When Shazam listens it immediately processes the sound into a very small digital file called a fingerprint. Fingerprints are matched against Shazam's database of media content. A fingerprint cannot be used to put the original sound back together.
What devices can the Shazam app be on? Shazam is a free or low cost application that runs on Andriod, Apple iPhone ios, Blackberry, and windows systems. The application is similar on most phones and the results is shown on the screen complete with details on Artist, Album, Title, Genre, music label, lyrics, a thumbnail image of the song/album artwork, links to download the song on iTunes or the Amazon MP3 store and where relevant, show the song's video on YouTube and give the option of playing the song on Rdio. Shazam is also available for Mac, as a desktop application.
Why I use Shazam? If I really like a song and I don't know the name of the song. I can hold my phone towards the audio and tap on the Shazam icon, and within seconds, I will know the song name and its artist who sings it, and other interesting information about the song. From the tag details you can buy it, check out the videos, get the lyrics, share it with friends and more!
