Millions of individuals utilize social media websites each day. So when representatives of major companies make a mistake when using social media it can become a bad situation. When posting anything on the internet, one must consider everyone who has the capability of viewing it or taking any kind of offense towards it. Those who are in charge of these positions must constantly ignore personal prefernces and remember who they represent as a whole. Entire businesses have been impacted by the carelessness of a single person.

Another way companies make mistakes while using social media is through their marketing. Trying to get people's attention towards a business can backfire by getting the wrong kind of  attention. Making a post that any group can take offense to or one that is considered inappropriate can start a flood of opinions that can make or break a business' success. Although there is a high risk by keeping up with social media in order to market one's self, not being a part of the internet community can do just as much damage. Businesses need to remember how they respond to customers and the actions that must be taken as consequence, the people who judge a business are the ones that determine its future success.
