US Airlines Makes a Mistake On Twitter

So if a employee of a company tweeted a graphic image in response to a customer complaining in about your company in social media be fired? Well, this exact thing happened to US airways in April of 2014. They where even given first place for "worst corporate social media #"brand strategy" Apparently the employee posted a pornographic image in the tweet. The reason why this headline was so big besides the fact that it was a very inappropriate way for a company to handle a complaint on social media, is the fact that US airlines ( unlike other companies) did not fire this employee for their actions. Instead they just stood behind them and backed what they had done. On one side of things I would say that this was actually a very strong decision, but does show how this company is strong when it comes to loyalty and support of their employees. On the other hand this does kind of show the issue of consequences of employees who feel they can do these thing and get away with it. I think that this action is strong enough to hurt a company and should make them look into the ways of social media directors. As we learn in class social media can and cannot be a good thing for companies. In this case this would really hurt this business and company as a whole.
